“There are thoughts which are prayers. There are moments when, whatever be the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees.” ~Victor Hugo
Small moments captured through a viewfinder and shared today. Because they make me happy. And because they bring me a bit closer to the ground, on my knees, where all wise people seem to be.
Our weekend began like this.
We gathered with our friends to celebrate a birthday and for the first time, I got to sit back and notice how much my girl has grown up, how she is participating in her own friendships, and how cool it is to get future flashes of girly sleep overs and giggling fests and delivering popcorn and hot chocolates to messy rooms and watching her grin from ear to ear.
I love how much she loves people. How kind she is becoming. How joyful her joy makes me.
We bundled two jammied kids back home to bed, unbathed and covered in cake, whispered sweet lullabies to them as we tucked them in, kissing their foreheads and inhaling them just one last time. And then in the morning, I took my girl on a date to the markets, where she asks to hold my hand a hundred times and we drink sugary fruit drinks because daddy’s not here and we stop and explore every nook and cranny because we can.
We drive back home for a baby swap over, where Ella goes down for a nap and I bundle my boy into the car and head down to the local festival at the lagoon near our place, visiting a friend who has a stall there.
A trinket or two find their sweet little way back home and mount themselves on the wall before Joel can say anything. Which is, of course, how things usually roll around here.
We squeezed babies tight this weekend. We went out for babychinos and park dates. We even stole dogs from neighbours at the playground and took them for walks, which is obviously the coolest thing ever.
I was on my knees watching it all.
I’ve got an exciting project brewing for this little tent – a happy little thing which has been in the works for months but should be finalized soon. In the meantime, I’m interested in what you’d like to see more of here. This blog has always been my space– in that I write about what makes me happy – but there is a sense of community here I appreciate as well, and I’d like, occasionally, to bring you things you’re interested in too–topics that inspire you, things you want to know more about, talk more about, delve more into. I’m no expert in any field – blogs or writing or photography or motherhood but I will always share the few things I know if you’re interested. If you feel comfortable, in your comment please tell me.
Oh happy day. Wherever you are, however you are, I hope you find a few small happies to be thankful for.
Yoga night tonight. Mondays might just be becoming my new favourite day.
See you back here soon, friends.
