Beauty

I like beauty. They tell me it’s a Taureun trait, (we all want a reason, right?) but I look for it and surround myself with it and record it with both my mind and my camera continuously, without ever consciously telling myself to. It’s like an inbuilt reflex- to stockpile the good, to remind me to be inside my life.

IMG_9476Yeah it’s the bright colours and pretty patterns and the way the light hits an object. It’s the composition of a photo and the perfect blurry background and oh look! Look at the pretty! I give myself space to appreciate a cute pair of red shoes and the 2 x 2 inch squares of calculated beauty on Instagram and a really well-decorated room. But there is Pretty Beauty and Heart Beauty, and even though both make me happy, Heart Beauty is what we need when the Pretty crumbles away…which it will, from time to time.

Beauty is always more than aesthetics and it’s not just that I like seeing it, it’s that I need to see it. We all do, I think. Because it’s not about adding glossy, shiny stuff to cover the mess of ourselves and our lives, but looking through the mess to find it.

And oh how it waits for us to find it.

Small happies this week….

Bedtime and clean babies.

Post-swimming picnics. I’ll take the steamed dumplings, thanks.

I love the beauty you find in the everyday Rachel. You are right, the beauty is there but sometimes you can’t see it. I have been in the worst head space lately (sick kids) and I need to get out of my funk. Thanks for your post. I will remember to look for the beauty in every single thing.. .as often as I can. We are so lucky to live this life. It’s selfish and wasteful not to appreciate it. Have a good weekend 😀

We all get in those funks honey — don’t put too much pressure on yourself to ‘enjoy every moment’. The beauty is there, but the hard is too. A life with little kids sure is tough sometimes. Thankfully they are bloody cute! Lots of love xo
