The Official We Love Winter Post
I feel it would be a disservice to this blog to brush past this season change like it ain’t no big thing. Like the cooler mornings and need for tights and coffee coloured boots are just something to roll with, not gush about like ridiculous people. Because, well, it’s me, you guys. It’s me. A drop in temps is a loud call to skip right on out of here, onto the pages of our winter bucket lists armed with quilts and hot chocolate and marshmallows for toasting. I texted my sister-in-law today: “Christmas in July – let’s do it” and she wrote back, “Um, yeah!” like nobody had to tell her twice. Dear God, thank you for bringing her to my family.
Anyway: Behold! Our annual winter bucket list, brainstormed with the kids and already encouraging conversations that end with, ‘Is that because it’s winter, Mum?’. I’m giddy just thinking about it.
- Hot chocolate stand on the corner of our street.
- Bake pies.
- Stanthorpe weekend away with friends – apple picking and wineries.
- Wash all quilts and throw them around everywhere.
- Jump in pile of leaves.
- Strawberry picking.
- Try new soup recipes.
- Star gazing in the backyard under blankets.
- Toasted marshmallow night on the beach.
- Closet swapover.
- Annual Snow Day at Southbank.
- Christmas in July with my brothers and partners.
- Forest scavenger hunt.
- Road trip west, somewhere super cold and super dreamy.
Anything else I should add to our ever-growing list?
And now for the best bit: Some winter visual candy.
Exhibit A: Weekend trip to the mountains.
Exhibit B: Matching jams on movie night.
Exhibit C: Crisp mornings at the yacht club.
Exhibit D: Cut-up passionfruit in the afternoon light. Look, I don’t know. I just thought it was pretty.
Exhibit E: Sailing afternoons with great friends.
Exhibit F: Little tights drying all in a row.
Exhibit G: New winter recipes.
Exhibit H: This.
And lastly, Exhibit I: Quilts that make me happy.
Can’t you just feel how cosy it’s getting?
Happy Cool Weather Season, friends.
What are your fav wintery things to do?

Yay for the start of the cooler months! Not much of a winter fan but I’m never sorry to see the disgusting humid end of summer. The cooler nights and mornings and buying new winter clothes for the girls is very welcomed. I have an extra one for the list: knitting! Much to Daniel’s dismay, I embrace my inner nanna and knit up a storm in winter… Love it! xx
You have to teach me! Long live the inner nana xx
