Harper Willow: A Birth Story — Red Tent Photography & Film
On Wednesday the 8th of June, I had the privilege of documenting the birth of Harper Willow Newing, an experience so beautiful I can’t really, probably ever, find the words to describe. Kim birthed like a goddess – powerful, vulnerable, open and free, and there is simply nothing more mysterious, more sacred or more holy we can touch this side of heaven than the beginning of new life, birthed by a woman who knows how powerful she is and works hard to face the pulls of labour with a steady, focused and peaceful heart. This film — this is really how birth can be. There was not a dry eye in the room.
What an honour. Truly. I still cry just thinking about it.
Here is Harper Willow’s birth story. (Photo gallery after film. Click here to view the film if you are unable to see it in your browser.)
1:37pm – I arrived. Kim was having intermittent contractions, getting stronger and closer together, and there was a steady hum of getting the birth space ready, organising care for siblings and awaiting Harper’s arrival.
5:30pm- The sun set and the moon came out, and the darkness created this great focus for Kim to start relaxing and letting go. Contractions began intensifying and ran much closer together and Kim moved downstairs to her birthing area.
Just after 7pm, Harper made her peaceful entrance into the world.
Welcome to this big, beautiful world baby girl. You are SO loved.
And Kim, thank you for trusting me with the job of documenting your daughter’s first breaths of life and for your permission in sharing your experience and this positive message of birth. You were incredible.
Happy Monday!
Also, my husband is this close to banning me from birth photography because I came home from Harper’s birth, burst into tears and told him I wanted ten more children.
