Our overnight bags are packed. Presents are wrapped. The house is clean. Fresh sheets line our beds and a beeswax candle burns on the kitchen bench. We’ve reached those final days of exhaustion and happiness all wrapped up in one and today at 2pm officially marks the start of holidays as we pick Billy up from daycare and check into a fancy hotel in the city to spend the night wandering the mall, watching the parade, taking in the lights, getting high on Christmas spirit with our friends.
So a little photo dump today of stuff we’ve been enjoying lately:
Baking Cookies: (a favourite tradition)
The Myer window displays.
Mum and dad returning from Africa. (The kids soaked them up.)
Which, just to clarify, differs from the Christmas lights I took the kids to see two nights ago. A forty minute drive to get there, stayed a total of ten minutes, then immediately drove forty minutes home again due to an extreme disturbance of the peace where all other disciplinary measures were failing. And look, I’m not going to name names but it rhymes with SILLY.
Lord, have mercy.
Sucking honeysuckles. New obsession. Did you use to do it as a kid, too?
Exploring our beach.
Our annual Santa photo where Ella asked for a dolphin and Billy asked for a whale. A sperm whale, to be precise. Santa stifled a laugh and wished me the very best of luck as we were leaving.
And lastly, the present wrapping ritual.
Ella added one last final request to her Santa list yesterday: A pink flamingo.
A sperm whale and a pink flamingo. Seriously, this is what I’m dealing with this year.
I won’t be back until after Christmas, so this is my last chance to wish you all a wonderful, bright, cosy Christmas. Gather your people and go love them. And thank you for sharing this little online space with me, a creative haven that makes me happy.
Two sleeps, babies.
